Fake spring break

Hey y'all.

So over here at the good ol' BYU we don't have spring break. Totes cray right!? So I'm making my own (as any smart college student would do). This weekend I'm going down to Saint George with my awesome cousin Angie and her fab kiddos and family. Hopefully I'll remember to take pictures.. :)

But for the time being, enjoy this. It's unreel. For real. And remember, don't get skootch leg.

Sabbath day thoughts, ed. 2

You know those times when you’re in class, general conference, or church and it seems like the teacher/speaker is speaking directly to you? Like they must know what is going on in your life because what they’re saying is exactly what you didn’t know you needed to hear. I hope you have all had one of those experiences, because they are amazing. They show you how important you really are to God. That we matter. He cares about our lives.

In my New Testament class this past week it seemed like my professor was teaching to only me. In Philippians 1:11 it talks about producing good fruit; in order to produce good fruit it must be a good tree and have good roots. Christ is the root of all good things, therefore a tree of righteousness is a person rooted in Christ. We can be rooted in Christ and be filled with righteousness too. Then, in verse 12, Paul is saying that all of the bad things that have happened to him are okay, that they were for the good of the church. Here is an example of how to act in difficult trials; he explains how trials are for our benefit. It matters how we act in difficult trials, just as Elder Bednar said a few weeks ago, we need to not shrink. We need to endure our trials well and we can produce “fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:11).

I am grateful for the knowledge I have of the atonement and the plan of salvation. I know that my trials are all to make me better. In Philippians 2:5-9 it talks about exaltation and the condescension of Christ. He descended beyond all, so that he can be raised up by God to exaltation and in turn we can all achieve the same end. We can gain eternal life and return to our Heavenly Father.

Saturday is a special day

Saturday was a very special day because I went to my cousin's son's baptism! It was so neat. The spirit was so strong and I loved every minute of it. It reminded me of the great work missionaries are doing across the globe, especially my many friends on missions. Plus I got to see my awesome family! My grandpa is seriously the bomb, he's so cool! And so is my cousin Angie (it was her son getting baptized).

Oh and see, I'm holding myself to the outfit posting, at least a little bit. Haha and I even found someone to take pictures for me! Maybe next time I'll even go somewhere cooler looking to take pictures...but we'll see, that seems like a lot of work :) Just kidding.

Sunday style

So for my new job I have to dress up, ya know, business casual. So I've gotten some slacks and khakis and stuff, but I'm still working on creatively putting together outfits and everyone says that by style blogging it helps. So I'm going to start documenting some outfits here and there...I don't think they're anything glamorous, it's really just for me to see what I've worn before and what I haven't. Hopefully it doesn't get annoying and hopefully I'm not a terrible dresser. I really don't want to dress frumpy, but businessy and cute.

:) Forgive me for the myspace-mirror shots... My roommates were gone and it was dark outside, maybe this week I can grab someone before it's dark and take them outside because IT'S GETTING WARM IN PROVO. SO STOKED. Seriously, check out the forecast. It's pretty great.

Also, spring is coming which means I can wear skirts. Which are seriously the bomb.
So I'm looking to get some cute knee & midi length skirts on the cheap.
Anyone know good places to look?

Spread the word...to end the word

As y'all know, I'm a special education major. I saw this video and wanted to share it with y'all. It was made at my friend's high school!

I believe in this video. I am not perfect. I catch myself mindlessly using the word. But I don't want to. I am trying not to because I realize that it can be offensive. It means more than we think it does. Join with me in trying to end the word. Simply be more aware of what it means and you won't want to use the word either.

Long lost cousins

Last night I got to say goodbye to my dear friend and long lost cousin Sheri!!
We were neighbors last year. At a ward activity we were doing family history and I noticed that her great-uncle had the same name as my great-grandpa! So we're some-number of cousins :) Anyways, she got called on her mission to Tallahassee Florida. She leaves in less than two weeks..eek! I cannot wait to hear from her when she's a missionary!!

You're going to be an awesome missionary Sheri!! I cannot wait to hear from you. Miss ya already!

Sabbath day thoughts

In my New Testament class, which I love, we read Romans 5:3-5 and discussed what we can do during tribulation. We have the choice to be patient, or impatient. To experience and be softened, or to be ignorant and hardened. To have hope, or fear and despair. We need to take the difficult things and have more hope in the Savior.

We then discussed Christ’s role. He has taken on the role of Savior; literally to save each one of us. Because we each fall short in this life, God provided us with a Savior. We need to make him our Savior, not just the Savior. In doing this, we need to fulfill our role, which is to come unto Him and let Him save us. We must have faith, repent, be baptized, and covenant with our Heavenly Father.

There are many steps that we can take to become closer to and become like our Savior Jesus Christ. Elder David A. Bednar talked about them tonight in a CES Devotional (which was hosted in my home stake, cool right!). We can feel, learn, know, do, and become. He said we can feel what we need to feel, so that we may learn what we need to learn. By doing that we can know what we need to know in order to do what we need to do. By doing this, we can become who the Lord wants us to become. We can become more like our Savior.

I know that by accepting Christ, by enduring trials, and becoming more like Christ I can have the Spirit with me. I can feel the Lord’s hand in my everyday life. I know that I am important to him. I know that I matter. And you do too.
