"I hope they call SOPHIA on a mission....."

I had to make a change to the wonderful song "I hope they call me on a mission!" Because it is actually my roommate who is going on a mission.

Sophia got her call tonight.

(Get ready for photo overload...) We were all so dang excited for her! Naturally we had to take a million and one pictures. Seriously, we could not contain our excitement! Plus our roommate from last year, Christina, came over. We love and miss her so much!
Patiently waiting for friends to come over. For parents to be on skype. (Well worth the wait!)

OPENING THE CALL

T-minus 31 hours

Dude. Guys. Bro. Gurl.

This is going down in approximately 31 hours!!

That's right, my momma is coming to town! [insert singing "momma thorpe is coming to town" to the tune of "santa claus is coming to town"]

I didn't go home for Thanksgiving. I haven't seen my momma in a few months (unless you're being technical and are counting skype calls, then it's been like 2 days, but I don't really count those). She's coming out for my dear cousin Jordan's wedding. But I get to see her and hang out with her. She's mah bessstest freeeend (slash mother figure...?)

I'm so excited. That is all.

Insta-weekend

I live in a college town. I stayed in said college town during Thanksgiving break.
Have you ever been to a college town during a holiday break?
It's like a ghost town (okay, not really, but it is veeery empty).

I kinda really really liked it...

Don't get me wrong. I love people. And I was ecstatic for my roommates and friends to come back. But I still did enjoy the empty little town. It was kinda awesome.

In other news...I had a rockin' weekend. Take a look.
Be jealous. (Okay not really, I'm sure your weekend was good too...but seriously, mine was awesome!)
1. My fake-baby-brother JP/Baby J/Jordan was in town! (How is he a fake brother you ask? First off, he is a real person, so that is not how he is fake. It's the brother part that isn't quite real.. you see, he moved in with my family when I was a senior in high school and became my unofficial-brother. All you need to know is that he is Baby J and he is really cool.)

2. I'm pretty much the coolest college kid you know. I made a blanket fort on a Friday night.
In case you weren't aware of this fact: blanket forts are the bomb. Need I say more?

3. The BYU basketball game! We got the sweet "Chicago to Provo" t-shirts.. JABARI PARKER: COME TO BYU! YOU WILL LOVE IT! He was at the game. I was on the fourth row. It was amazing. You should probably be jealous.
(In case you're not sure who the heck Jabari Parker is, check him out here and here. He's ranked number 2 in the nation for basketball and is being recruited by several of the top colleges in the nation, he is awesome.)

Us BYU Cougars want Jabari bad. Check this out.

Happy Thanksgiving Y'all!!

I hope your Thanksgiving was amazing!

I know mine sure was. My brother Brett, friend Monica (Momo!) and I went to my aunt's for some great food, family, and fun.

Check out this awesome video my cousin April made with her iPhone! I loved how she documented the entire day..so much fun!

We all kept forgetting it was a video haha...posing for pictures then realizing we could move. So much fun!

Brett, Monica, and I made pies the night before. Apple and pumpkin...and they were delicious!

To finish off my days of gratitude posts...

TWENTY ONE

I'm grateful for everyone in my life. Especially my siblings (and their amazing spouses) and my parents. They have taught me so so so much and I hope I can grow up to be just as amazing as everyone else in my family. They have been such great examples for me. They always give me the best advice. I LOVE Y'ALL!

Seriously. Mom & Dad. Thanks for everything y'all have taught me.
Ryan, Lainie and Braxton--can't wait to see you soon!!!
Aubrey & Michael (and baby!)--can't wait for y'all to be parents!!
Cam & Janet--I love getting to come to y'all's place all the time.

Days of gratitude: nineteen and twenty

NINETEEN

Yesterday I watched "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving." I had forgotten how much I loved Charlie Brown!! (I can't wait to watch "A Charlie Brown Christmas!") It just reminded me of childhood; I remember watching all three Charlie Brown movies every holiday (Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas). It was always so much fun.

Look at the awesome Thanksgiving scene my coworker made for our work!

TWENTY

Today I'm grateful for quotes.

Especially finding awesome quotes on pinterest, or when I need a pick me up or something I can just go look at my quotes board. Yeah, ridiculous I know, but seriously it helps! Here are some of my favorite quotes. What is one of yours?

Especially cute quote printables! I found these super cute ones from Kensie Kate [blog and etsy]. She has made some adorable prints with some of my favorite quotes ever. I'm loving her blog too. Y'all should definitely check out her blog/shop!!

Quotes are just so great. They can make you feel happy, realize what you need to do better, realize that it's okay that you're not perfect, empower you. Seriously. I love quotes. I have a journal dedicated specifically to quotes.

[All from Kensie Kate!]

Days of gratitude: seventeen and eighteen

Man, its been a good weekend. I got to hang out with some awesome people. Especially my brothers Brett and Cameron and my sis-in-law Janet! Seriously. I'm so grateful for those three in my life. They got my back, they help me be happy, they are the best examples ever!! These are just a few of my amazing siblings, the ones out here surviving in the Utah winter! :)

Thanks for being the best siblings eva!!!

And today church was the bomb. We had an amazing Relief Society lesson on kindness. Oh my goodness, it's such a simple thing that we're taught since day one but it is so easily forgotten. I loved the emphasis on building each other up, being kind, and being understanding.
I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR KINDNESS!

Here is a quote that my mom and sister Aubrey shared with me:

Days of gratitude: sixteen

I am so grateful for all of the nice people at BYU!

Especially awesome people in my classes and super nice customers (I work on campus, don't 'cha know!). They make my day. A lot.

Today my super cool friends from my Art for Elementary Education Teachers and I were little hooligans--or the term I prefer...HOODRATS! We went to BYU's Museum of Art and go on a tour. And we took awesome pictures with this giant pretzel sculpture. Probably my favorite part of the museum. Check it out for yourself...

Days of gratitude: fifteen

Oh baby! I can't believe this month is half over. And the semester is almost over! And Thanksgiving break is next week. So stoked for everything coming up. It's definitely going to be a busy few weeks until classes end, but totally worth it.

CHRISTMAS TIME IS THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR!! :D I love Christmas!

Anyways, back to things I'm thankful for...
Today I'm sooo grateful for laughter. And specifically things that make me laugh. Lately it's been the following sites (seriously, they're hilarious!!!):

  • It just gets stranger: Snuggie Texts part 1 and part 2. So dang funny. My roommate Jamie showed me this in our 2 and a 1/2 hour class today and we were busting up laughing...and being a tad bit distracting, oops. It's a little long, but well worth it!
  • Just Say Amen Already: a blog written by a LDS convert commenting on how funny Mormon culture is.. oh man, my new guilty pleasure.
  • And finally... #whatshouldwecallme. Another animated gif site with hilarious captions. Thank you coworkers for showing me this one.
Hope you enjoyed some laughter today too! Got any funny jokes?? Please share!

Oh man..today was awesome. Wanna know why? Three reasons.

ONE: Because I got a free lunch. Thank you BYUSA for pizza and BYU International Study Programs for popcorn and a donut!

TWO: And in my American Humanities class a student came in and breakdanced for us! It was so awesome. Plus we watched awesome youtube videos and listened to hiphop/rap music..so much fun. We're studying hip hop and rap right now, so we watched the video below.. I know it isn't Christmas yet, but I still had to share.

THREE: My dear Texas friend Janine got her mission call today! She's going to Brazil Joao Passoa, leaving March 27. I'm so happy for her.

Enjoy this fabulous music video. I thoroughly enjoyed it, I hope you do too!!

I can't choose one thing, so I'm thankful for a few things today.. free food, friends, and awesome music!

Days of gratitude: twelve

Dude. FHE is great.
It's a way to take a break from school and work and junk to hang out with some friends, have a spiritual thought, do something fun, and eat good food!

Tonight we had a lesson on President Dieter F. Uchtdorf's talk Of Regrets and Resolutions from October 2012's General Conference, which is such a great talk! I want to make sure that I don't have regrets in this life, but that I enjoy life and fulfill my potential. I want to resolve to make and attain my goals in life in order to better myself. I want to become the person that God wants me to become!

After that we made HAND TURKEY'S!!! Seriously, I love drawing and coloring hand turkeys. Then we wrote things we are thankful for on them! So much fun.

And of course we had good food. One of our FHE "brothers" served a mission in Ecuador and made us a traditional Ecuadorian dish! Fried plantains with ketchup and mayonnaise on top. They were really good, plus it's always fun to have food from other countries.

Have you made a hand turkey yet?

If you haven't, you should! If you have, share a picture of it!
Mine was modern, an Andy Warhol take on a turkey...random and fun colors.

Days of gratitude: eleven

Today I fell back into a bit of nostalgia and looked at some of my old journals.

I love journaling and writing about what is going on in my life at that moment, then a while later looking back and seeing what I thought was important enough to write down and then combine that with how I remember it now.

I was flipping through the ones from last year (my freshman year of college) and last summer. It was fun to remember those good times and even the hard ones. They are the moments that have made me who I am today!

I also love looking at how my style of journaling has evolved and changed throughout time. Like I used to write sloppily and just jot everything down as fast as possible, then I went through a phase where I would only write on the right/front side of the page, the left/back side was strictly for quotes to be highlighted or pictures or things I wanted to stick into my journal. Sometimes it's more like a scrapbook, other times I will just write and write until no end. No matter what I write or how I write it, all that matters is that I write it. Cliche, yet so dang true.

Remembering those hard times helps me remember the things I have gone through and that I can make it through whatever may come my way. Heavenly Father is there for me. I am never alone. I am never forgotten.

So anyways... Journals are the bomb. Seriously. I love them!!

Days of gratitude: nine and ten

Bad blogger alert: I missed posting yesterday. But it was a Friday and I'm in college, that's a good excuse, right?

NINE

Last night was the Men's Basketball Home Opener! I love me some BYU Basketball!! My awesome cousin Andrea came down and went to the game with some friends and I. It was so dang fun. Plus they gave the entire student section sweet free tshirts, and who doesn't love a good free tshirt?! Seriously, family is awesome. And basketball is good.
SO GRATEFUL FOR BASKETBALL!
Oh and for the record, I do know that kid creep-creepin on our picture...

TEN

Today I'm grateful for BYU FOOTBALL!
I figured if I'm being grateful for sports, I might as well and go for two of my favorites! :)

Today is the last BYU home football game. It is going to be so dang cold and snowy and freezing, but I won't even care! Because it's football, and football is awesome.

The End. Now to go to something productive for the rest of the day... :)

Days of gratitude: seven

I got to talk to my dear mother and father today. I love getting to facetime (skype-for-macs) them, like I did today! We talked about my past, present, and future life. They give me bomb awesome advice.

We talked about my choice of major.
We talked about how my friends are.
We talked about how classes are going.
We talked about my dear brothers.

...Oh and I got to see all the fun crafty stuff my Mom has been working on. :)
For real, my parents are the bomb.

I am thankful for facetime!

Days of gratitude: six

I love getting to share clothes with my roommates. I'm so thankful that they're so nice to let me borrow their clothes :) Today the only thing I wore today that was my own was my shoes and watch..

Take today for instance: Sophia and I both wore Kenz's clothes. Check it out.
shirt: thrifted (current roomie's, Kenzie)
jeans: Kohl's (roomie's, Danyelle)
shoes: Shoe Carnival (Born of Concept brand, so they're dang comfy!)
watch: Fossil outlet

Kenz: wore all her own clothes, good for her.
Soph: wore all of Kenz's clothes, except for her vest and shoes!

Oh and check out Sophia's blog...teaser: she talked about hood rats!!

Days of gratitude: five

I'm so glad that it is Monday! Surprising I know, who really likes Mondays? But often I truly do!! Today was very productive, I got a lot done, and sometimes it's nice to go back to school and work after a good weekend. Mondays (and the rest of the week too) make the weekend that much better. If it was always the weekend, without responsibility and commitments, then we would take it for granted.

Usually people think of Mondays like this...
1

But I prefer to look at Mondays like this (which is not always easy)...
1   2   3

Today is a great day.
Mondays can be amazing.
I love productive days!

Today wasn't even extra special for any particular reason, just an all around good day. School, work, and homework. YAY! Then FHE, gym, and more homework. It doesn't make sense to love today so much, but I just do. :)

Days of gratitude: four

I am grateful that I matter to Heavenly Father.

"...the vast expanse of eternity, the glories and mysteries of infinite space and time are all built for the benefit of ordinary mortals like you and me. Our Heavenly Father created the universe that we might reach our potential as His sons and daughters.

Compared to God, man is nothing; yet we are everything to God.
My dear brothers and sisters, it may be true that a man is nothing in comparison to the greatness of the universe. At times we man even feel insignificant, invisible, alone, or forgotten. But always remember—you matter to Him!

You are not invisible to your Heavenly Father. He loves you.
...He will neither forget nor forsake those who incline their hearts to Him. Have hope and faith in that promise. Learn to love your Heavenly Father and become His disciple in word and in deed.

Brothers and sisters, the most powerful Being in the universe is the Father of your spirit. He knows you. He loves you with a perfect love. ... He sees you as the being you are capable and designed to become. He wants you to know that you matter to Him.

May we ever believe, trust, and align our lives so that we will understand our true eternal worth and potential. May we be worthy of the precious blessings our Heavenly Father has in store for us is my prayer in the name of His Son, even Jesus Christ, amen."

"You Matter to Him" by Dieter F. Uchtdorf

I'm so dang grateful for the MAIL.

I love getting unexpected things in the mail. I get all giddy inside. It is so dang awesome.
The end.

Days of gratitude: two

[Pretend I posted this yesterday...]

Today my lovely roommates and I went to the TRC (Teaching Resource Center), it's part of Missionary Training Center where people can go volunteer to get taught by the missionaries as they are preparing to go on their missions!

I just loved the opportunity to talk about the gospel, feel the spirit and strengthen my testimony. We talked about keeping the Sabbath day holy and what that means to each of us.

I am thankful for the opportunity to serve and talk about the gospel each and everyday!

Just chilling and waiting for the missionaries to come teach us! :)

Days of gratitude: one

Kenz is seriously amazing. Here's another reason: she's writing what she's grateful for each day until Thanksgiving. Here is her first post. So pretty much, since she's so dang cool, I'm copying her (and joining her!) on sharing what I'm grateful for too!

DAY ONE

Today I am thankful for, well a lot of things, but specifically my coworkers. I pretty much have the best job ever, and work with the best people ever! We have so much fun together and they help me out if I'm having a bad da.

Sometimes we share candy or a maple bar. Other times we have serious conversations and they give me great advice. They will help me laugh when I need it (especially with these two videos: one and two ... side note, camels are my favorite animal.) Seriously though, they're pretty dang awesome.

COUGAR CREATIONS IS THE BOMB!

I am grateful to be surrounded by people that care about me and make working fun!
I also learned that I need to take pictures with them more often! These are so old, but still love them!
