Dress to skirt

This weekend I was crafty...I made a skirt! My cousin Christina and I went to DownEast Basics and they were having a sale, sooo I got this dress for $10. I just loved the pattern and the exposed zipper in the back!

Ignore my oh so cute faces, I had to concentrate really hard on making sure I got pictures of it so I wasn't thinking about what faces I was making...hah!

You probably can't tell from the pictures how ill fitting it was up top, but something had to be done about it. Then I realized that I could probably make this a skirt. So I did it! And I love how it turned out.

Soo all I did was cut the top off (making sure that I had the zipper pull on the part I was keeping), leaving about 3/4 an inch. First I took care of the zipper, making sure it wouldn't come right off. I folded the zipper down inside and hand stitched that, then sewed the rest folded down inside so I had a nice band. I love how it turned out!

Here's the top band by the zipper in the back after I had cut off the top, before sewing.

So proud of myself!! Thanks to my dear momma for teaching me how to sew! :)

Believe, Obey, and Endure

Yay mirror pictures..(note: sarcasm)
But for seriousness, YAY SUNDAY!

Believe that remaining strong and faithful to the truths of the gospel is of utmost importance.

Obey the laws of God. When they are obeyed, our lives will be more fulfilling, less complicated. Our challenges and problems will be easier to bear. We will receive the Lord's promised blessings. Though the path is difficult, the promise is real.

What does it mean to endure? To withstand with courage.

Seek heavenly guidance one day at a time.
Life by the yard is hard; by the inch it's a cinch.
Each one of us can be true for just one dayand then one more and then one more after thatuntil we've lived a lifetime guided by the Spirit, a lifetime close to the Lord, a lifetime of good deeds and righteousness.

-"Believe, Obey, and Endure" by President Thomas S. Monson
I just love President Monson; he's such a stud!

Just a bit about the weather

Rockin' the rainboots today! They keep me warm + dry, which was extremely important today because... was the first real snow of the year. And I'm not ready for all that wintery, snowy stuff! Fall is more fun (read: "fall is warmer!"). I was boycotting/refusing to bust out all the coats yet. But then it snowed. It's not worth it to be that cold and freezing! But apparently it's supposed to warm back up for a little while longer. And that is perfectly alright with me. Is it fall or is it winter? My votes definitely fall :)

My favorite part about fall is stepping on the crunchy leaves as you walk around campus. What is your favorite part about fall?

Roommate love, edition 2.

Meet my roommate Sophia. Seriously, this wonderful Asian-Idahoan girl is amazing.

Last night as I was sitting on the floor, she randomly laid in my lap (see below!). When I asked her what the heck she was doing, her only response was "it looked comfy... :)"
(Does it remind you of something Kenz did last week? Because it sure reminded me, ha!)

We were roommates last year (our freshman year) and had so much fun together. I'm so glad we randomly chose the same apartment. I don't know what I would do without this Asian persuasion in my life!

What we wore.

Guys. It's fall. I like fall. But fall gets too cold too fast and then it's winter and you have to wear coats and scarves and it's not fun. But fall is fun. You get to wear cute sweaters, and people can still see your cute sweater because it's not covered up by a coat.

I've been refusing to wear coats (hence why I was so dang cold today). But it's supposed to snow Thursday..I really don't want to wear a coat then either. :( Hopefully it really won't snow and meteorologists are just playing a joke on me. Wouldn't that be lovely?

Anyways, enough about the weather. Here's what Kenz and I wore today.

BYU big kid fun

I can't believe how great this Monday was, hopefully the rest of the week can be just as great. I had some good clean fun, last year my roommate Christina dubbed it "BYU big kid fun!" And tonight was full of it, here's how:

First off I finished my paper! Woot woot. But what's even more exciting is that I went to the BYU Museum of Art (or MOA, because BYU loooves their acronyms, pronounced mow-uhhhh) and looked at their exhibit, Think Flat, which features art by Andy Warhol and Takashi Murakami. I loved it and want to go back a million times. Seriously, if you're in Provo or Utah or something check it out. It's well worth it. (My favorite part was probably the Warhol's endangered animal series.)

For FHE we had a caramel apple bar. So much fun! We sliced up our apples to share with everyone, some melted caramel to dip them in, and crushed up oreos to put on top. An easy, delicious fall treat! So grab some friends and enjoy.

Since all of my homework was done (that's what's up!) I went to the gym with some friends then we went hot tubbing! We met some new friends, laughed a ton, and got all pruned.

Everything together made for a great Monday!
What was your favorite part of your Monday?

Top five: Sunday is a great day.

Today was a great Sunday. Five things that made today extra amazing:

My big brother Brett randomly showed up at my apartment. Then he joined us for dinner. I just love him so dang much! I love how often we hang out and that we aren't just family, we're friends too. :) He's da besssst.

Facetiming with my Momma, sis-in-law Lainie and nephew Braxton! He's a year and a half and is talking now and it was just so much fun. He said some words for me then we gave each other high fives for a while and even blew kisses. Seriously made this aunt's day! He also tried to share his treats with me, but was kinda sad when I couldn't actually take them. Love that kid (and his momma and my momma) to death. They're some aweeesome people. Cannot wait to see them at Christmas!

Dinner and nap parties with my FHE brothers. First we all stuffed our faces, with some delicious taco soup and homemade peach cobbler, then had a huge nap party because we were so full. For seriousness though, they're some amazzzing guys.

Singing Disney songs at the top of our lungs with my fab roomie, Kenz, while we were cleaning the kitchen and doing the dishes. (Then accidentally hitting her in the head with a spoon I was drying off, but we don't have to mention that part, right?)

Roomie pillow talk. AKA Kenz and I trying to figure out our lives. It's great fun ...NOT. But oh well, we have each other and that's something, right?? Hahah yaaay life planning.

And a great quote for the week: (via)

Oh and disregard my annoying 13-year-old-girl spelling where I add extra letters. It's for emphasis, okay?

Roommate love.

In case you were wondering, my wonderful roomie Makenzie and I were meant to be. We get along so well and have so much fun together. Seriously... SO. MUCH. FUN.

Last night, I'm sitting on the floor with my legs propped up, minding my own business, and she says to me "Madi, I really wanna crawl through your legs right now." Then proceded to crawl through said legs.

Kenz is an awesome roommate. Love her to death. We have so much fun together. Roomie love. Perfectly normal thing to do on a Thursday night.

BYU Cowgirl

Here are a few things to be happy about, or a few things to say YAY about:

YAY Cowboy boots. Seriously, I love being from Texas, having Texas pride, and wearing my cowboy boots! Or I guess cowgirl boots :)

YAY awkward pictures in my apartment, literally seconds before I changed into sweats for the rest of the night. This is college life. School, work, homework, sleeeeeep (as much or as little as you can get, depending on the night). Seriously though, I live by the following:
...come on, I'm sure you do it some days too! Last year was bad...this was me (and my roommates) practice every single day. This year, not as bad, but still pretty dang often. Oh well, I look cute on campus, that's enough right?

YAY taking two midterms today! (and I still have another for tomorrow...not yay) ...Speaking of that last midterm, I better get back to studying. Later y'all!

Top five: Conference weekend

This last weekend was General Conference. It was such a spiritual weekend. I love getting to hear the prophets speak, I definitely used to take it for granted. I'm so thankful for General Conference weekend!!

ONE: Getting to go to the conference center for Sunday morning's session with the roomies!

TWO: The missionary age getting lowered. Seriously, that's awesome!

THREE: Hearing and learning a ton of things that I have needed. It is so amazing, the Lord knows each one of us individually and knows what we need to hear. This conference I focused a lot on taking notes on what I felt from the spirit and promptings I received or things that were sticking out to me, instead of just generally taking notes here and there on what they were saying. It made such a difference. I was consciously listening to their talks and the spirit and making sure to pay attention to what the Holy Ghost was saying to me. Amazing.

FOUR: Seeing all of the gorgeous conference quote printables on pinterest... :) here and here are a few. So crafty, I just love it.

FIVE: Quotes quotes quotes... (And getting to see my notes in my journal...eek!!)
  • "May peace be with you this day and always."
  • "Strive more earnestly to become the person God wants us to be."
  • "It's not a race; it's a journey. Enjoy the moment."
  • "Serve with faith, humility, and a desire to do God's will."

"Fear not, I am with thee"

Well, I've been needing a friend lately, someone who is just there for me. After some scripture study, journaling, this video, and the hymn "How Firm a Foundation" (especially the third verse) I was feeling much better. Christ is always there for us. We are never alone!

Sometimes I look cute.

It's beginning to feel a lot like fall. I'm not quite ready to commit to the sweaters, coats, and boots yet. I'm still holding out on my capris, sandals, and tshirts.

How do you like my messy room? I'm busy.. school, work, social life. I have to cut something out. Just kidding Mom!
